Tai Chi is both an exercise program and an internal martial art. This class will focus primarily on the exercise benefits, using slow but continuous moving postures to increase balance, body awareness, strengthen the muscles of the core and lower body and improve breathing and relaxation.
Tom is the founder and Instructor for Balanced Tai Chi and Qigong. Tom is a Native Floridian who recently relocated to Merritt Island. He has been practicing Tai Chi and Qigong for over twenty (20) years under the tutelage of Dr. Peter F. DeBlasio, M.D., founder of Tai Chi America. A disciple of Grand Master Dong Zeng Chen and a master in his own right, Dr. DeBlasio has been practicing Tai Chi for over forty (40) years. Mr. Abbott’s desire for self-improvement had him attending over fifth teen (15) instructional workshops by Grand Master Dong. Additionally, Mr. Abbott has also had the opportunity to attend workshops by Master Yang Zhenduo and Shifu Jiang Jian-ye. Since retiring and when not teaching or practicing Tai Chi, Tom enjoys spending time windsurfing, surfing, stargazing and playing acoustic music.
